This synopsis courtesy of Deadline, 18 November 2014:
The Help’s Ahna O’Reilly... leads the cast as a grad student who goes to a campus sleep clinic to treat her insomnia and nightmares, but instead starts experiencing unsettling changes in her waking reality every time she wakes up. With the help of a doctor, she attempts to find her way back to normalcy by unraveling the tangled knot of her dreams, reality, and shockingly tragic past.
Richard Armitage plays Dr. Scott White, a sleep researcher who develops a unique relationship with O’Reilly.
Director Elliott Lester announced Richard's involvement in this film on 24 September 2014 via twitter and just a few weeks later on 6 October, Richard started filming on the production in Los Angeles. Richard wrapped on this project on 30 October 2014.
The director tweeted many times during production, and all pictures that included Richard are in the Sleepwalker gallery, including a picture from photographer Sarah Dunn (via twitter).
On 6 October 2014, an announcement on the Swedish site Metro (online article no longer available) was published, stating that Izabella Scorupco had joined the cast of Sleepwalker. This article provided the first piece of information about the film. Thanks to Seb for the translation.
"I play a psychiatrist. It's about a girl who's been going through a trauma and has started to sleepwalk, she has become a sleepwalker. And you're supposed to try and figure out what's happening. I have one of the supporting roles, it's so much fun, Izabella Scorupco tells TT."
Post-production has been completed but there is no news about a release date for this film to date.
Interviews during filming
On 27 April 2015 in an interview with HMV to promote the final Hobbit film, Richard mentioned Sleepwalker as follows:
"That was something we shot last year with a director called Elliott Lester and an actress called Ahna O'Reilly. I don't know if you remember the film Memento, but it shares a bit of ground with that. I play a sleep doctor who is studying a woman that's suffering from this condition where she has various extended realities. But he turns out to be somebody much deeper than you expect, he's not quite what he seems.”
The First Picture
On 12 October 2014, director Elliott Lester tweeted a dark photo and after a quick edit in Photoshop (see below) it's clear to see that it is Richard standing in front of a fireplace. Click the edited image below to enlarge.
