Announcement and Synopsis

The announcement that Richard will play the lead role in a new 10 part series from EPIX television called Berlin Station was made on 11th September 2015. The series will be released in October 2016 via EPIX television, with international distribution handled by Paramount Television.

Announcements were made on VarietyDeadlineTV Line and The Hollywood Reporter. All the photos of Richard were taken at The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies premiere in Los Angeles in December 2014.

From Variety: “We are very happy to have found our ‘Daniel’ to join this incredible ensemble cast,” said Mark S. Greenberg, president and CEO of EPIX. “Richard is a singular talent who has the presence and attitude to bring this character and story to life”…“Both Richard and Michelle are enormously talented actors who exhibit an on-screen intensity and passion that viewers respond to because of their intellect and ability to let transformation overcome their characters,” added Amy Powell, president of Paramount TV.

Richard plays Daniel Meyer, a CIA case officer who becomes an undercover agent in Berlin, tasked with uncovering the source of a leak who has supplied information to a whistleblower called Thomas Shaw. Guided by jaded veteran, Case Officer Hector DeJean (Rhys Ifans) — a darkly charming, tenacious agent who works for Chief Steven Frost (Richard Jenkins) — Daniel learns to contend with the rough-and-tumble world of the field agent — agent-running, deception, the dangers and moral compromises. Forbes plays Valerie Edwards, the no-nonsense administrator who serves as a Berlin Station Section Head.

Promotion

The first official pictures from Berlin Station were published on 6th April 2016, via the German news outlet Berliner Zeitung, two of which show Richard as Daniel Miller. Many press outlets are still referring to his character as Daniel Meyer, as this was the name given on the original PR release, however Richard and the writer have since confirmed on twitter that the character is called Daniel Miller.

Here are the two new photos – click to enlarge.

The article refers to the German actress Victoria Mayer and her role as Ingrid Hollander in the US drama, and so there is no information about Richard or his role, except a small reference to her character’s interaction with Mr Miller: ‘For me it is more about Ingrid’s conflict with the agent, who is played by Richard Armitage, and her confrontation with the American secret service’. Here is a rough English translation of the article.
